a
visit to bangla town- artist book
This book documents a visit
to Brick
Lane in East London. Being the home to Bangladeshi
immigrants, it is also known as Bangla Town.
What strikes me about this place is its diversity.
A big Bangladeshi community mixed with an equally big artistic
community. Walking up and down Brick Lane you will find Indian
restaurants to trendy shops, arty cafes and clubs, Bollywood
posters next to graffitti. This variety makes a visit to Brick
Lane a very rich and dynamic experience (for all your senses).
My intention when I started this project
was to capture Bangla Town's diversity and to create a visual
narrative of the real place but at the same time add another
layer to it. Opening the possibility of it becoming somewhere
else. The images form a sequence by being linked to one another.
Each one incorporates an element of the one before. All the
images in the book were originated from my photographs and
drawings taken in location.
